Being Mentally Tough leads to an improvement in performance, positivity and a greater ability to manage stress. Being Mentally Tough means you are more focused on achieving outcomes and making things happen, without being diverted or distracted by setbacks, obstacles or alternative opportunities. Being Mentally Tough also means you strive to be the best you can be and can develop the confidence and self-belief to be successful.
It’s a characteristic that some people have in spades and others not so much but mental toughness can be developed in everyone. The first step is understanding your base position, where you are now with regards to your mindset and what steps you need to take to become mentally tougher.
This is where the simple, but scientifically valid, psychometric measure MTQ48 is invaluable.
WHAT is MTQ48?
You can measure your Mental Toughness online through the simple and effective MTQ48 psychometric measure. The test has 48 questions, taking no more than 8-10 minutes to complete and measures the component parts of Mental Toughness – the 4C’s:
- Control
- Commitment
- Challenge
- Confidence
The results are available within a few hours with a narrative describing your Mental Toughness and some suggestions on how to further develop it. As a concept, Mental Toughness has been researched and developed by Professor Peter Clough at the Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK and thoroughly validated by others. Whilst embedded in the areas of education and health it is being used increasingly and authentically by individuals and organisations wishing to explore the benefits of being mentally tough.
WHO should take it?
Anyone sufficiently self-aware and interested in their own personality and make up should take the MTQ48. It’s a simple and effective measure of one of your key personality traits and the results come with a narrative with some development suggestions to help you.
Being mentally tough has proven benefits and the research has shown that that those with higher scores on the 4C’s of Control, Commitment, Challenge and Confidence enjoy the following:
